About me
Hello, I'm Thomas van Ouwerkerk, an actor, mime performer, and physical theatre artist, known for my diverse and captivating work across various platforms. Born on 1988 in the Netherlands, my journey into the world of theatre began early, fueled by a fascination with the art of silent expression and visual storytelling.
My education took me to School of Arts Utrecht (HKU) and L'ecole Philippe Gaulier, where I immersed myself in the intricacies of mime techniques, physicality, and the transformative world of masks. This educational journey laid the groundwork for a career that seamlessly blends movement, emotion, and the powerful art of non-verbal communication.
I've had the privilege of collaborating with a range of theatre companies. From Familie Flöz, Jakop Ahlbom Company, Thomas, Sacha en Jos and Troupe Courage to exploring international stages, I've embraced different styles and cultural influences, constantly pushing the boundaries of my craft.
Throughout my career I want to be part productions that highlight the power of mime, physical theatre, and mask performance.
Notable highlights include 'Horror', 'Twee oude vrouwtjes', 'Teatro Delusio' and 'Feste, where I integrated movement and visual storytelling to create memorable and impactful performances.
Masks have been a significant influence on my artistic journey. As a master of this ancient theatrical tool, I've delved into the transformative nature of masks, portraying a spectrum of characters – from comedic to tragic, and fantastical to deeply human. The masks have become an integral part of my storytelling, adding layers of emotion and symbolism to my performances.
Beyond the stage, I'm passionate about sharing my knowledge and love for the performing arts. Through workshops and educational programs, I aim to inspire the other performers to explore the expressive potential of mime, physical theatre, and masks.
Follow me on social media to stay updated on my upcoming performances, workshops, and explorations in the world of mime, physical theatre, and masks. In a world where the body is the canvas and silence speaks volumes, I strive to be a beacon in the realm of visual storytelling, enchanting and inspiring audiences worldwide.
